The lifting aid
Project deals with a solution for Kockums Maskin AB where the transfer of a substance from a pallet into a fixture is to be carried out. The process used in this project was a spiral process where ideas were realized by making full-scale prototypes. The prototypes were then tested both by us in the group and by Kockum's workers. This project was part of the course Innovative and Sustainable Product Development 2.
The problem
When processing a part, a movement was performed by hand. The part itself was heavy (weight 13kg) and awkward, which made it unergonomic for the worker to perform the lift with his own strength. The fixture could also rotate in the lifting aid so that it can be inserted into the desired fixture. There was a traverse on site to be able to hang the lifting aid in.
Prototypes and the final solution
We started by trying a "locking technique" using a spring inside a beam. However, this did not work as planned as it was not possible to place the part in the fixture when the lifting device was gone.
And
We later came across another lifting device that locked the blank using a scissors function. Due to the construction, the part was locked with the help of its own weight. In the locked position, the part could rotate freely in both the horizontal and vertical axis. The scissor function also became our final solution.
